DESIGN FAQS

  • WHY SQUARESPACE?

There is no other platform I believe in as much as Squarespace. It is a wonderful match for small to medium sized businesses, both functionally and aesthetically. I believe in handing over a final product to my website clients that they can actually use, and Squarespace does that and so much more.

    • DO YOU DESIGN ON ANY OTHER PLATFORMS?

At this time, I solely work with the Squarespace platform.

      • DO I HAVE TO HAVE MY CONTENT AND IMAGES READY BEFORE THE PROJECT BEGINS?

You must have all website content (imagery and text) ready to go by our agreed upon start date. Failure to do so could result in rescheduling the project to a later date and/or a restart fee. The best projects are well thought out and prepared before any designs are conceptualized. When the project goals are finalised before the project, you and I are working with a clear direction, purpose, and mission.

        • WHAT HAPPENS IF I DON'T HAVE CONTENT AND IAMGES TO YOU BY OUR AGREED UPON START DATE?

If you pay your retainer to book your spot but then do not complete your project homeowork or do not commit to having your content ready to go, you will be bumped to the next available spot and required to pay an additional $250 rescheduling fee to re-book your project back on my design calendar.

        • WHAT IS WEBSITE HOSTING AND WHY DO I NEED IT?

In a nutshell, website hosting allows you to post your website on the Internet. In this case, Squarespace is your website host which serves as a platform to provide the services needed for your website to be viewed. You will need to purchase a hosting plan in order to launch your site. A Business Plan can be purchased separately by you (see Squarespace hosting fees), but this is something we'll go over together before your site goes live!

        • DO YOU PURCHASE THE HOSTING PLAN/DOMAIN NAME FOR ME?

No. For hosting, you will need to purchase a Squarespace hosting plan (I always recommend the Business Plan) seperately and we go through this process when you are ready to launch your site. For domains, you will need to puchase your own domain name and provide me with the permissions to access the accoount (if you do not purchase your domain through Squarespace). I recommend GoDaddy as the one of the most affordable and reliable providers who also integrate well with Squarespace. With that said, Emma Rose Company is not responsible for server downtime, software issues or any other compatibility issue that may arise after the launch of the site from your hosting or domain provider.

        • WILL YOU ADD ALL MY OLD BLOG POSTS AND/OR PRODUCTS OVER TO MY NEW SITE?

For every package, I will upload up to 5 blog posts and 15 products if included in the site design and discussed prior. If you need more formatted, the work will be quoted on an hourly basis.

        • DO YOU OFFER PAYMENT PLANS?

Payments are broken into two parts. I require a 40% non-refundable retainer payment that needs to be paid up front in order to secure your booking and the 50% remainder can be paid on the end date OR when the project is complete. Whichever comes first.

          • IS MY FIRST PAYMENT REFUNDABLE?

No. All retainers are nonrefundable. This is my way of securing your spot in the queue. Because I'm a one gal operation here, I book out months in advance and scheduling ensures that I give all my clients the proper attention their project deserves. As a result, I turn away clients for your reserved time slot. If you back out of the project, you may leave an empty spot that could have been given to another project. The deposits ensure that clients are serious about moving forward with the project.

          • IF I'M NOT HAPPY WITH MY WEBSITE AFTER TWO ROUNDS OF EDITS, WHAT HAPPENS?

If for some reason you are still not happy after two rounds of refinement (which happens very rarely!), we will continue the refinement process at my current hourly rate. We go through an in-depth questionnaire and briefing process in the beginning to make sure we are on the same page, so 99% of the time 2 refinement rounds are plenty!

          • WILL YOU WRITE MY WEBSITE COPY?

No. I am in charge of the design of your website and the look and feel of the visuals. I am more than happy to recommend several copywriters who can help you! Just let me know and I'll send you their info!

          • DO YOU PROVIDE WEBSITE IMAGES FOR ME TO USE OR DO YOU TAKE THEM?

While I am also a photographer, I do not provide imagery for your website. I have connections to so many amazing photographers across the world and would love to use my resources to connect you with someone to help you with imagery! Just let me know and I'll put together names for you! And of course, if you're located near me, I'd love to chat about helping you with your brand photography!

          • WILL YOU MAINTAIN MY SITE AFTER LAUNCHING?

Currently, I do not offer ongoing maitenance services but included in every large website package is 1 hour of training (via Skype) and/or 1 additional hour of in-person training (if living locally) to go over every part of your site and how to edit it.

          • HOW FAR IN ADVANCE DO I NEED TO BOOK?

            Answer here.

          • DO YOU PROVIDE SEO FOR MY NEW WEBSITE?

Included in all my website packages is basic SEO set up to optimize your website to the best of my ability. Writing for SEO is not included and is best done by your copywriting professional. If you require additional, specific or on going SEO services I would recommend getting in touch with an SEO expert who can give you specialist help.

          • DO YOU PROVIDE WIREFRAMES BEFORE WE BEGIN THE SITE PROCESS??

In the traditional web design process, there are sometimes wire-frames involved, but for Squarespace and within my own creative process, they aren’t needed so we go straight to on-platform design wth the full page content. This just gives you a full idea of the site with working buttons, images and a responsive layout (instead of flat wireframe).

          • IS THERE ANYTHING SQUARESPACE DOESN’T DO??

While Squarespace is robust and powerful, there are times that it isn’t the best fit for your needs. Squarespace isn’t currently built to support: Memberships, paywalls, or restricted content areas. (The exception is Customer accounts for Commerce plans. We can also work around this with Memberspace). Inventory management software or point of sale systems.

While I'll retain the copyright of the images from your wedding day, my contract gives personal print and media permissions to my clients for any non-commercial usage. If you have any concerns about privacy, please let me know.

  • CAN I SHARE MY PICTURES ON SOCIAL MEDIA?

Of course!  I want you to share your images on social media!  The only thing I request is to please do not alter my images in any way with filters, etc.  It would be like painting over a beautiful painting.  As a photographer, I'm an artist and it goes beyond much more than taking a picture and sending it to you.  Every image is hand edited with careful attention to detail.  When my images are transformed in any way, it is a misrepresentation of my work.
