What Dream Chasing Means to Me

Have you ever felt alone and isolated as an entrepreneur?  Have you ever felt like your dreams are so big that there is absolutely no way to make them a reality?

Trust me, I get it.  Been there, feel that... you are not alone.  Being a dreamer is a lot of work.  It's great work, but it's a lot.  Being a dreamer means that the ideas never stop in our heads and we are filled with so much creative energy that sometimes it's a challenge to channel that energy and focus on one thing at a time.  Chasing dreams means that you are willing to risk it all to make it a reality.  It means taking leaps of faith, being vulnerable, and realizing that there will be obstacles along the way but if you just keep pushing, things will fall into place.

My Dream Chasing journey started when my little girl was placed on my chest for the first time.

Before the birth of our daughter Riley, I felt lost in my life.  I jumped from job to job only to be left feeling disappointed and frustrated.  I hit a point that I questioned if I'd ever truly be happy.  That was not a fun place to be, but it was my reality.  However, everything changed when I held Riley for the first time.  It's as if all the fuzzy in my head finally became clear and I knew what I needed to do.  Sure, it took awhile to get there but I felt something deep down in my chest that said, "Emma, you are going to do something big."  Even if I didn't know what that meant at the time, I felt it and I believed it.  Because of that feeling, I started down a journey that would forever alter the course of my life and how I lived it.

Somewhere along the way after moving to Southwest Washington to be part of the family cattle ranching business with my little family, I started growing my photography and design business.  I found myself booking out months in advance and realized that I had something special to share with the world.  I started an online Facebook community called "Dream Chasers".  I figured some people might join and some might even participate, but I never imagined what would actually happen...

The Dream Chasers Facebook Community quickly became something truly special and sacred to my heart.

In a short time I started seeing something truly incredible unfold in front of my eyes.  I experienced the power of community and people coming together with a common purpose.  A purpose to uplift, rejoice, and celebrate one another.  I found that the community continued to grow but only in a positive direction.  I found that the people in the group were not only learning from myself, but they were learning from each other with huge strides!  The work I continued to see posted in the group only got stronger and stronger as members began to find their own style and voice as entrepreneurs.  This little idea soon turned into something much bigger than myself and I realized that pretty quickly.

Sure, I put the group together but the members are the ones who keep it alive and unique.

This isn't your average group.  The people in my Dream Chasers Community have quite honestly become my friends.  We talk like we've known each other for years.  While I haven't met all of them in person, we have shared many video/skype dates and I've even met some in person here on the coast!  It doesn't get much cooler than that.

I'm putting together workshops for this year and reached out to the Dream Chasers Community to help me with a little project.

As some of you may know, I'm putting together a few different workshops this year - they are all different and unique in their own way which is truly exciting!  I'm hosting a workshop/women's retreat in Palm Desert California this upcoming winter (November 6-9, you can get all the deets here) and reached out to the group to help me with a special little project.  I wanted to do a BIG giveaway within our group so with the help from my friend Lucy Krodell who came to me with this idea in the first place, I asked the group to send me a one minute video of themselves sharing their hearts with me to have the chance to win a free seat at my November Workshop in California!  The response was INSANE!  My box was flooded with heartfelt words that honestly brought me to tears on multiple occasions.  Right in front of my very eyes I was seeing something so profound take place.  I saw incredible women putting themselves out there to help me share the heart of the Dream Chasers Facebook Community.  They allowed themselves to be vulnerable to share with me exactly how and why the group has impacted them personally and professionally.  I didn't tell anyone what I was doing with the footage so this post is a big surprise for everyone, but I did do something with the footage and you will get to see that at the end of this blog post!

living with the mindset to chase my dreams whole heartedly has quite literally changed my life.

Before this group, I was managing.  I was chugging along, hanging out in different Facebook groups but always, no matter what, felt so small.  I felt like a tiny little fish in a sea of huge fish... or possibly whales?  Don't get me wrong - there are so many things to love about some of these larger groups out there, but no matter how hard I tried (and still try) to feel heard, I still felt lost in the shuffle.  So I decided to start this hoping to ease that feeling and allow others like myself to feel safe, secure, and at home with an online community.

Dream chasing is such a common phrase in the world but I've made it my mission to give it even more meaning.  I want anyone who is part of my community to be unafraid to share their BIG DREAMS with the people around them - family, friends, and even strangers.  I've made a conscious effort in my time as an entrepreneur to stand by my title.  I shake hands with confidence when introducing myself and what I do.  Do they all get it?  Heck no.  Do some roll their eyes?  Sure.  I'm good with that, because they don't have to believe in me for me to believe in myself.  I wanted to create a space that teaches others to be proud of their own title, whatever it may be and to run with it.

Dream Chasing means that I'm not giving up, no matter what stands in my way.  I may have to make adjustments along the way, sure... that's part of being a business owner/mother/wife/sister/friend/daughter... We wear all the hats but because I am a Dream Chaser I know and believe that I have everything I need to make any of those dreams a reality.  Some may take longer than others, but they are in reach.  I hoped to create a community in which others felt and believed the same thing.  I hoped that they would realize their potential, even when it's hard to do in such a huge industry.

I'm going to let my fellow Dream Chasers take it from here as they share their hearts with you in this short video.  I hope you feel inspired and know that you are not alone and there are so many of us who are here and eager to get to know you and cheer you on every step of the way, whatever that looks like to you.

Thank you to everyone who submitted videos to me!  I wasn't able to use everything in such a short clip but I'm honored and humbled to be part of such an incredible community.  It is because of you I'm here chasing these dreams and that I know I'm not alone.
