When Keely first contacted me about her senior portraits I could just feel her energy and knew it was going to be so much fun. The minute Keely walked up and I got to meet her for the first time in person I did a happy dance! She looked so dang cute! I always tell my clients not to overthink their wardrobe and keep it simple. I know clothes aren't everything, but they do help me do what I do best which is documenting timeless and beautiful photographs that won't go out of style next year.
Keely wanted her pictures to be taken at Magnuson Park in Seattle, Washington.
Awhile ago I stopped letting the fear of a "new location" scare me because when I'm pushed out of my comfort zone and have to create a plan without extra time to prepare, it has yielded some of my very best work. Keely's session was no exception. It was raining on and off that morning and then these huge bursts of sun came through. When I arrived a little bit early to scope things out, I noticed a community garden down by the dog park. The second I stepped foot in the garden I knew that was going to be our main spot for shooting. It was so beautiful! Keely told me during our session, "This feels so unique! I feel like everyone goes down to the water for their senior pictures, I love that this is different."
We danced and played in the garden for the first portion of her session and it was a blast!
I always like to mix up the scenery so we drove to the other end of the park where there were some nice little trails. As I started shooting her on the trail, I noticed a spot off the beaten path. I made Keely and my assistant hike up a little hill which ultimately made a gorgeous "mountain top" view overlooking the park. Score! When I sent Keely her questionnaire before our session she mentioned she likes rustic. Our second spot was that and so much more. We spent some time up there with her in her white pants and jean jacket. I cannot get over her wardrobe and how everything with this session just came together perfectly.
Finally, Keely wanted some pictures in her cheer outfit.
When she first mentioned this to me, I wasn't 100% sold on the idea. To be honest, it goes outside of "the look" I try to achieve with my work, but once I found the spot to shoot and saw Keely in her adorable outfit, I knew it would be so cute and special for her to remember this time in her life doing what she loves the most. It was so fun seeing her jump around and be completely herself during this part of our shoot. Seriously, I melted inside a little bit thinking about my little girl and someday being old enough to participate in school activities like sports and cheer if she so chooses. Keely brought me to a place of joy during her session thinking about everything that is ahead as a mother of a daughter. So without further ado, I hope you love the images below from our gorgeous Magnuson Park senior session in Seattle!
Keely, you are a beautiful soul and working with you was a dream. Thank you for playing a part in helping me continue to chase my dreams. I wish you nothing but success and happiness for all your adventures ahead! The world is your oyster and I cannot wait to see what you do.
